The origins of this scholarship began in 2000 when Mary and Tom Siegler ’52 established the John G. Siegler Scholarship Fund at La Salle to honor the memory of Tom’s brother, an alumnus of La Salle from the class of 1950. Mary’s brother, James Shannon from the class of 1951, passed away in 2002. And five years later, when Mary died, Mr. Siegler decided to change the name of the Scholarship Fund to the Siegler Family Scholarship Fund. This scholarship honors the legacies of the deceased members of the Siegler family, as well as Tom Siegler, who is still an active member of the La Salle community. The Siegler men—all from working-class families—strongly believed in the impact La Salle education had on their lives. They decided to give some of their economic success to La Salle so that they could help continue to educate young men who would follow in their footsteps.
